When a child experiences learning, developmental or behavioral difficulties, it can be quite difficult to determine where to begin or how to manage these problems. Assessing problems and developing adequate management techniques can be like having multiple pieces to a confusing puzzle. Many seemingly unrelated factors can combine to impact the child’s development, behavior and social relationships. Therefore, when the clinician is performing an evaluation, he or she will take into consideration the symptoms that, like puzzle pieces, have to fit perfectly to obtain a clear picture of the problems affecting the child.

The intervention services, like the evaluation itself, are then pieced together to build a cohesive intervention program. Even the simplest of developmental problems can be incredibly complex if not managed with the whole child in mind. And finally, the ability to access the intervention services that are available at many schools requires that specific evaluations be performed to satisfy the legal requirements for eligibility to those services.

Formulating and managing an intervention program requires in-depth understanding and experience. These requirements apply not just to determine if a child is eligible for services, or to meet legal requirements, but to assemble a plan that will help improve the family’s quality of life. It is in this process that The Tridas Center for Child Development can assist your child and family.

Eric Tridas, MD, FAAP
Dr. Tridas is the director of The Tridas Center for Child Development. He is a board certified pediatrician who specializes in the diagnosis and management of developmental and behavioral conditions such as ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and other neurodevelopmental and behavioral problems.

Dr. Tridas has resided in the Tampa Bay area since 1982. He completed his fellowship in Ambulatory Pediatrics, child development and learning disabilities at the Children's Hospital Medical Center in Boston. During that time he held an appointment as a Teaching Fellow at Harvard University Medical School. Dr. Tridas completed his residency in Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Buffalo. He graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, School of Medicine in 1977.

Dr. Tridas is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Family Practice at the University Of South Florida School Of Medicine. He is a member of the national board of the International Dyslexia Association. Dr. Tridas is also the State Medical Director for Pediatric Health Choice Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (P-PEC) facilities.

He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for Developmental Pediatrics, the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine and the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.

Nancy Carnevale, MD, FAAP
Dr. Carnevale is a board certified Neurodevelopmental Pediatrician. She completed her medical degree at Brown University and an internship and residency in Pediatrics at the University of Connecticut. After practicing general pediatrics for 7 years in rural Massachusetts, she did a fellowship in child development at Rhode Island Hospital, Brown University Medical School. Following her training, Dr. Carnevale served on the staff of the Child Development Center and was a Clinical Assistant Professor at Brown University.

Dr. Carnevale has conducted research in the developmental follow-up of premature infants. She has a special interest in gifted children and the primary care of developmentally disabled children.

Dr. Carnevale is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.

Joan Gaughan, RN, CDDN Patient Care Manager
Joan is a Certified Developmental Disability Nurse who has been working as part of our team since 1986. Nurse Joan is the Case Manager for the Tridas Center. She performs Developmental assessments on infants and toddlers and conducts screenings of vocabulary and eye-hand coordination on our new patients. In addition, Joan assists the physicians in the coordination of the medical management of our patients.

Mrs. Gaughan obtained her Nursing Degree from Maria College in Albany, NY and a bachelor's degree in Social Sciences from the College of St. Rose also in Albany, NY. She is the former Director of Education and Director of the School for Child Care Technicians at St. Margaret House and Hospital for Babies in Albany, NY. Joan was the Director of Nurses at the St. Petersburg Cluster, a Florida state funded residential facility for developmentally delayed individuals.
